Discussions on Low Impact Development (LID) Bioswales and Bioretention Solutions
On March 14th, 2014, the ASLA San Diego Chapter Stewardship Committee invited design professionals, contractors, City/County agencies and students to participate in a discussion on proper design and maintenance of Bioretention Basins and Swales at the San Diego Mesa College Design Center. Speakers at this event included:
- Jim Kuhlken - Rick Engineering
- Garn Wallace - Wallace Labs
- Craig Kolodge - Filtrexx
- Mike Klaerick - Green Meadow Growers
- Chris Cutler - Steven Smith Landscape, Inc.
The goal of the event was to create an open dialogue between multiple professions regarding the challenges we face in designing and maintaining bioretention basins and swales. During the event, there were a variety of topics discussed along with a question and answer period with many questions. The discussion showed that we need to have more events in the future to discuss these topics in greater detail.
The following PDF is an outline of each speaker's powerpoint presentation. We will be posting a video of the event in the next couple of weeks for your convenience. If you have questions about future events, please contact Tim Smith at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Rocktoberfest Rocks at KRC
There's nothing like a piping hot pizza fresh out of KRC's outdoor brick oven to compliment an ice cold beer shared with friends and colleagues.
Over 80 CLCA San Diego members and their guests put this to the test on Thursday, October 27, during the chapter's annual Oktoberfest get together. With no agenda beyond socializing with other industry professionals, this get together is always well attended with members old and new appearing "out of the woodwork."
This year's event was held at KRC Rock's demonstration yard, complete with a new outdoor kitchen and pizza oven. Thank you KRC Rock for hosting the event and for the great pizza, and thank you to all who came out to enjoy it!
Why Hire a Landscape Industry Certified Technician?
Hiring a landscape contractor for your property is not an easy job. An estimate alone doesn’t gauge the quality and professionalism the company can offer your community, but when a contractor is certified in the landscape industry, this speaks volumes.
When looking for the best landscape contractor to do the job, consider those with “Landscape Industry Certified Technician” or the initials “CLT” on their business card... MORE
